AP Biology Salute!

27 courageous 10th-grade students just completed a year of AP Biology and sat for the AP Biology exam last Monday. It was tough, but they stood strong, and are hoping for a score of "3" or better on the test, which can earn them credit for Introductory Biology from many colleges around the country. To reflect on their experiences in AP Bio, students will enter comments to this posting to share the trials and tribulations as well as the successes and insights they learned over the course of the year.

By far I think AP Biology has been the hardest class I have ever taken in school so far. The purpose of it being the hardest class, is that I think a lot of the activities, labs, and quizzes were too difficult and the vocabulary were beyond my level and my intelligentsia. Indeed it was a very fun class though. I really enjoyed being in this class. In fact it was one of my favorite class in the entire school. But overall I felt like I have accomplished a lot by being in this class, and I felt I was really being challenge. This was good, because I love challenges. My greatest challenge in this class was having to learn to memories information for my unite tests. This I think can be helpful later on in college perhaps, or through life. It was a really good study technique. Most of the times, I felt really bad if I failed a test or a quiz. But, then again I feel good because it doesn’t count against me or affect my grade baldy.

In conclusion I felt like I know a lot more about Biology, even though I never had any type of biology class before I took the Ap Bio course. In fact one interesting topic that really reaches out to me the most through the entire unite was RNA and DNA structure and function. I would love to expand more on this topic if i ever consider taking any type of science class in the near future.

A few days ago I completed my AP Biology course with an end of year standardized test and I must say it was pretty hectic. Last year when I received a letter in the mail stating that I would be taking an AP Biology course I wasn’t to thrilled. For one I knew that this class would be more challenging and I would have to devote myself more. It wasn’t that I didn’t have the faith that I needed to ace the class, it was just thinking of things that would make me work harder made me not want to take the class at all. Don’t get me wrong when it comes to my grades I try to give it my all, but honestly I don’t think I did that this year in Biology. After taking my first quiz and “failing” I took a retest and I failed again. Before I was used to passing but not in this case, after countless times of “failing” I kind of gave up on my grades. At one point I was so nonchalant that I would get my test back and laugh at the grades I got because it wasn’t a surprise to see a 3/15 or worse 0/15.

Ahh, good old AP Bio, was a tough journey for me, but completely worth it. I never in my life thought I would take this course, but it truely showed me how most college classes will be, and what to expect. Half of the things I learned I've never heard of before, or I never really showed interest in it. I always knew living things were so complex, but no clas ever went into as much detail as this. Overall my experience was a positive one. From the passing grades, to the AP test, which wasn't talked up to what it was. Even if I didn't past the test, I have an excuse, I'm only a sophmore. Also, I know I tried my best, and that's good enough. I feel confident that I did well, hopefully that pays off. I'll definately miss this class,a nd Ms. Thomas especially, thanks for being such a great teacher!

This course was the most difficult course I've taken. This is the only course I've taken that you have to really study everything you learn to the fullest. If you don't study you could fail a guiz. I liked the quizzes because it gave us students a chance to put what we learned to the test.
There were alot of hard things we did this year in AP Biology but the test were the hardest. With a test you would have to study a whole unit which were a variety of different chapters covering different subjects. The Labs weren't that hard but it could bring your grade down if you missed at least 2 or more.
Even though this class may have been one of my hardest yet i would do it all over again if i could just for the priceless knowledge I've learned.

AP bio was a challenging but interesting class. It was challenging because it was a colledge levil class and we were learning about things that we normally would not see untill our first year of colledge. The interesting part of it was the labs that we did such as the file lab.
I would recomend this class only for people who like challenges and are willing to work hard.

Lets see A.P bio this year, was reaaly hard. Haerder than I ever thiught it would've been. But I guess that it was good because it opened my eyes to the fact that not every class in high school is going toi ber easy and that I really have to apply myself to get the re4sults that I want. And as for everyonje who thought that the A.P class didn't do any work I'd like to see yall take the A.P. exam. But over all I think that the whole experience was a good one and one that I will always remember. And over all it was kind of fun. At first when I started failing I didn't relize why and I was kind of mad but then I relized that In actually had tyo study, which wasn't somethingt I was used to because I never really had to study forn any quiz or test that I can remember. And even though I most likely failed the A.P exam, I'm glasd that I was selected tob be apart of the class, especially since it will look really good on my transcript when I apply for coolege. So inconclusion I would like to say that this whole A.P experience is one that I will always take with me and one that I will never forget, since it taught me a lot more than just science it taught me to not give up even when you start to fail and that hard work really does pay off. Also, I would like to thank Ms.Thomas for always having faith in all of us even when we didn't have faith in ourselves.

A.P Biology was a very interesting class. I have to say that it was the hardest course that I have came across, but I think that it prepared us for what has yet to come. The quizzes alone were overwhelleming and the unit test unbelieveable. Through it all I managed to stay somewhat on top of things, and trust me mantaining an A in biology was the hardest. If I ha to do it all over again I'm not going to lie I would do the same thing that I tried to do in the beginning of the class, try and transfer out. Don't get me wrong I like challenges, but this one was (I would hate to say) a little out of my league.

But like I said earlier I managed to get through it. Thanks to my friends, and a great teacher, Ms. Thomas!

Oh my word. Its actually over, and I didnt die. Ap Bio was the hardest class I have ever taken. It was probably the most boring class too. No offense Mrs. Thomas. I'm just not into science. Overall,it was quite an experience. I learned so much about my self. I learned that I can achieve anything that I truly want, if I work my best at it. Thats one thing I can say I recieved proudly from this class. That an a AP course on my colleg resume.
It was a great year though. Thanks Ms. Thomas!!!!

Throughout the year we took a lot of test and quizzes on different topics. My favorite topic that we covered this year was DNA. This topic really astonished me with what it was about. The materials such as cells, chromosomes, and genomes which I didn’t know to much about is what made this section so interesting to me. This section had so many new things that I never knew or learned about. For example that a human cell has a length about ten times greater than the cell’s diameter. I also learned that the nuclei of human somatic cells each contain 46 chromosomes, and many more things

When I heard for the first time in the spring of 9th grade that I would be taking advanced placement biology the next year, I couldn't believe it. Going from a basic physical science course to AP Biology was a big challenge, but I made the best of it. Though I didn't understand a lot of the material, I do feel that I learned from the class. I was exposed to a rigorous class. I now know more what to expect in college and later in my academic career. I officially completed the course on May 12, 2008 after taking the College Board AP Biology exam. Though I did study for the exam, I now regret not devoting myself as much as I could throughout the whole year. Instead, I tried to cram everything I was taught over the whole year in weekend. Obviously, that wasn't the best strategy. I guess you could say I'm not much of a science guy and I did the bare minimum of what it took to get by. I'm sorry Ms Thomas for all the times I slept in your class. The class was definetly a huge wake up call to the importance of studying.

When I found out this summer that I was going to be taking AP biology I was ecstatic! I couldn't believe it. I was thrilled. Once I got into the course I took notes faithfully but the material just seemed to be a little too advanced for my brain. Nevertheless I stuck in class and gave it my all. Towards the end of the year I took the annual test for the class and well It was pretty hard. Even though times got rough i'm glad I stayed in the class. I feel as though I've learned so much through it. =)

The topic me and my partner Lamont had was Porifera. They are primitive, sessile, mostly marine, water dwelling filter feeders that pump water through their bodies to filter out particles of food matter. Sponges represent the simplest of animals. With no true tissues (parazoa), they lack muscles, nerves, and internal organs.

99This was the most difficult course that I have taken so far through school. The material was hard, however if you took good notes, read the notes , and studied for the test it was easy to get a good grade. The AP exam at the end of the year was a whole different story. It was very difficult, but if you studied, alot of the questions were simple because we learned it prior to the test. So for anyone taking this course I reccomend readind the material, studying, and taking good notes.

AP biology was full of many laughs and then many fears.I think throught out this course the class winded up pretty good and I really enjoyed myself in the class. When I first was informed that I was enrolled in AP I thought ow know I 'm going to fail but when I got in there the work was pretty good I wouldn't say easy but it was good enough to understand which was alright by me.I would say the things I like to do best in AP biology was labs I loved labs they was really fun and I can really understand them and the work was pretty fast. The thing I wouldn't miss in AP biology is the unit tests I hated them I would always fail and I always use to study and then when it was time for the test I would freeze up and don't remember anything.I would say that is the thing kids that enrolled in this course next year should know and look out for.Overall I really enjoyed the class and I wouldn't give up the experience for nothing in the world.I forgot our teacher Ms.Thomas she also did a wonderful job.

I loved AP Biology and I can’t wait until we dissect things that are so cool. I really loved the AP Biology class because we did a lot of labs but the amount of test we had was very different for me. We had a test like every week. But I guess in the long run it was worth it because it preparers me for college.

Ap Bio was hard but I'm happy that I did it. Throughout the year I pretty much skimmed by not really caring about the work or the test. Then it was tim eto start studying and I was wishing that I had actually paid attention. Before I took the test I was really scarred that it was going to be the hardest test I had ever taken, and there would be no way for me to get a good score. As I took the test I thought different. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Yes it was hard, but it wasnt the end of the world. Maybe I could have gotten a 2 or a 3. I'm happy that I took this class because now I know what I have to do for next year. I will have more ap classes and I think thia class really prepared me for them. Now i can see different study methods and I now knwo what not to do. So ap Bio really was a good experiance for me.

What one word can describe A.P Bio this year? Hard! This year was a real big challenge for me. It felt like we couldn't move at a steady pace. When we was done one thing we have to move on to the next topic. But I think I deserve the grade I got all this year because I think could of done better. I also think that I wasn't prepared for this class anyway. but I am now prepare for my next year A.P Bio class. I now know what to expect from an advance placement class. Overall, I kind of like it because it was a challenge andn it is preparing me for next year.

AP Biology was an experience that i was not expecting to be apart of. When I got the letter in the mail stating that I would be in the AP program, I have to admit that I was pretty worried. It was a great learning experience and it helped me to see that I can succeed in anything that I put my mind to. I have to admit, that although in the AP class there were a lot of things that I did not understand, but when it came to the test I wondered did I really learn all of this stuff. It was hard, but it was a great learning experience for me and it prepared me for what to sort of expect in college and the real world. I would love to take another AP course and I can honestly say that I owe it all to the AP Biology course.

Ap biology was exactly what I expected it to be. Hard and difficult to survive through, but i succeeded =]. This actually helped me out alot, because now I have a little taste of how college work is going to be. That means I have to kick butt in order to accomplish what I need to acomplish. I am glad was given this opportunity although in the beginning i didn't like it =/ I'm still grateful though.

I never knew that a small thing like a plant can be so complex. That's exactly what AP Biology taught me. It taught me that even the smaller things have ways of growing and adapting to its environment. I've grown in AP Biology and I learned how to adapt to the work ethnics required for me to succeed. I have been trying to post this comment for a week but my computer at home never allowed me to post it so here it is and I know it's late but it is here. Back to AP Biology, I very enjoyed myself this year. I learned that studying plays a big part in pasting anything. Now I am prepare for the next AP class next year. Environmental Science here Christiana comes!
